Cheers to Tuesday | June 21th

The Week in Review | June 14 – June 20 (21), 2016

Honesty time: I started writing this post yesterday afternoon, after a previous week of high and wonderful and exciting emotions, followed by a despondent morning of goodbyes, stacked up against days of off-my-schedule sleep. I left the laptop in the living room, with the beginnings of a rough draft sitting on the screen, when we all went out to dinner, but by the time we got home, I could barely keep my eyes open. Literally. I fell asleep on the ground by the campfire ? and then on the couch while Luke made some last-minute calls. It was so bad that I barely remember anything else after I stumbled out to the camper to start getting ready for bed. (Luke tells me he was in and out of said camper some four times before he came to bed, and I literally don’t remember any of them clearly ?). I was exhausted. And Monday Cheers just didn’t happen. URGH. My first missed one since I started the series with this post last November!

But you know what? Life goes on anyways (thankfully) and there is overflowing grace for the really large moments right along with little ones like this, that feel like tiny personal blunders and blows to my “I blog regularly-ish” pride. Woof. But, it’s a great reminder for me to be more intentional about looking for the grace-filled minutes in each day….God’s grace that continually erases what should be exposed and punished, and also the grace I need to give myself to push past the guilt of silly perfectionist tendencies so that I can keep heading towards freedom and full, intentional living! ♥

With that in mind, here’s this week’s honorary Cheers to TUESDAY 😉

It has been HOT here in Vermont today (Monday), with temps even higher in some places than down in Florida ?…which is a rare thing indeed around here! This past week was as full as full could be, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!

-First things first, Luke’s youngest sibling and only brother GOT MARRIED on Saturday!!!! 😀 It was one of the sweetest and most emotional ceremonies I can remember, full of Jesus and family and the culmination of years of nurturing and prayer. I had the honor of being in the audience as a guest this time around, and it was so refreshing to see the day unfold from that special perspective! And as an added bonus, their photographer was someone I graduated from high school with, and it was SO nice to catch up with her and hear about her three precious littles and her thriving business (I can’t wait to see her images!)!!!

And to top it all off, the best man was truly the best man that I know, one whom I just happen to have the privilege of waking up next to every morning ♥ His speech/toast for the newlyweds was full of truth and wisdom about marriage and how vital it is to “learn to say ‘no’ to the good so you can say ‘yes’ to the best”. (John Maxwell for the win!)

-Last Tuesday, Luke and I drove down to Stowe (ski capital of New England) to have breakfast at McCarthy’s with my dear friend and mentor, Pam, who along with her husband, has been a huge part of my life since my freshman year at college, many moons ago 😉 Our time together was absolutely wonderful, as it always is, and when we left, I couldn’t help but feel refreshed and encouraged deep down in my heart. Jesus just overflows right out of her!

After breakfast, Luke and I had some time to kill before we had to head back, so we took a leisurely drive around town, up through The Notch and around the ski resort, and then through the country out to the Trapp Family Lodge! Yes, like the Von Trapps from the Sound of Music. And it was even more stunning than I’d imagined it would be! Yay for spontaneous date days with my love!!!

-Here are a few of my favorite Vermont things from the past week: the cool nights, the evening ride in the ’64 Mustang, the lush green scenery, the field next door lit up with fireflies, the strawberry moon rising over the mountains last night, and the delicious smell of freshly mowed hay fields ?

-On Thursday night, once all of Luke’s siblings and nieces/nephews were here (which, by the by, means that there were six kiddos 10 years old and under running around), all of us girls got the food prepped while the guys got the fire going, so that by the end of the evening, we were all camped out around the fire pit, cooking hotdogs, eating fresh guac, and toasting marshmallows for s’mores made extra delicious by using Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups instead of a chocolate bar. (Oh.My.Gosh. I’m never going back! ?).

And with that run-on sentence 😉 , I’m going to go enjoy some strawberries + ganache and this cool Vermont evening (with temps getting down into the 50s by morning!!!) Happy Tuesday, all! Maybe you’ll remember with me this week to look more intently for all the grace we’re shown each day? ♥
