Cheers to Monday | August 8th

The Week in Review | August 2 – August 8, 2016

I know you’re all going to laugh, but yesterday and today have actually been COOLER weather, at least by Florida standards, with lots of rain and temps in the high 70’s! URGH. Luke and I and all our Northern Pride are embarrassed to admit that we think that that’s actually “cool weather”. Acclimation is a double-edged sword, my friends. ? In our defense, though, this recent “this would be a warm summer day in New England” weather has been making for many snuggly days with naps, favorite candles, and fuzzy blankets, so it’s not all bad I guess 😉

And with that, here are some of the highlights of the past seven days!

A free office chair!!! This may not seem like much to you, but I’ve been dreaming of and wishing in my heart for a new chair, and this weekend Jesus provided in such a sweet way! For the sake of a backstory….the roll-y one I’ve been using is adjustable but has started lowering on it’s own (which is actually pretty funny in the moment when you realize that you’re slowing getting closer to the floor ?) and doesn’t have enough room for me to sit criss-cross, so my legs end up going to sleep a lot. Neither are big deals in the grand scheme of things, obviously, but I’ve been secretly hoping to find a large living-room-ish chair that I could use in the office and that offers plenty of room for tucking (#chairyoga). Last week in our church’s online yard sale group, I saw just such a chair, listed for FREE, and was able to get in touch with the owner, who said that Luke and I could come by yesterday after church to pick it up! In true to his character, wonderful-husband fashion, Luke drove us over, carried said chair down from the second floor, and got it all tucked into the trunk, in the rain. Thanks to his sweetness, the previous owner’s generosity, and a Father who knows even the smallest desires of my heart, I’m now sitting at my desk in a TEAL, floral print beauty that has plenty of room for stretching out and tucking up, and is the perfect pop of color for this mostly-neutral space!

Friendship. This past week was jam-packed with hours upon hours of time spent with sweet friends, and I’ve been thinking since the weekend about how special that really is, about how it’s such a tender answer to our prayers for deep community and intimate friendships. Tuesday? Floating around the pool with Ami, sharing about marriage, romance, being a mama (her not me), and struggles we both face. Wednesday? Laying out at the beach with Emily, sharing about her pregnancy (EEEEK!!!), our sweet hubbies, photography + business, and all the goings on of the last several weeks. Thursday morning? Sitting on the couch with Kim, sharing about finances, being a wife, work stresses, weekend plans, and family. Thursday night? Luke and I hosting our small group for our Monthly Meal night, sharing about so.many.things, and loving every minute. Friday? Sitting around our table for dinner with the Hancocks, sharing about the first few years of marriage, updates about their latest adoption news (it’s incredible), new work adventures, Brit Lit, and God’s abundant provision.

See what I mean? When we moved down to St. Pete, we prayed for this kind of community, for these kind of friends, for the ones who ask hard questions, who share in triumphs AND defeats, who walk with Jesus and call us to the same, who shower us with grace, who are walking the road of a committed, no-matter-what marriage.  We have found all these qualities, and more, in the little tribe that’s forming around us, and this past week especially, was such a sweet reminder of that!

Luke. He has a HUGE project at work that’s been months in the making, with a fast-approaching deadline in two days. In fact, it’s actually the reason we went up to Jacksonville for this trip 🙂 He’s been busting butt and putting in extra hours at work and at home, crunching numbers, designing spreadsheets that make my head spin, and now, taking on the entirety of the project as both of the other people working with him have had to step away from it. And I just wanted to say publicly how proud of him I am and how incredibly thankful I am for all of his hard work and sacrifice. He takes on leading and guiding and providing for our little family with such a generous and serving spirit, which makes me feel so cared for and valued. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, baby!

Saturday Adventure. Luke drove us out to Lakeland to visit Rocking H Ranch, a wedding venue/farm that I’ve been wanting to visit for months…and it was even more beautiful than I’d imagined and seen in pictures! Even sweeter than that, though, was the graciousness and welcoming spirit of the owner, Angela, who invited us out, gave us a tour, and allowed me to walk around with camera in hand, snapping away to my heart’s content. I have a full post of my favorite images in the works, and I can’t wait to share it with all of you! In the meantime, just imagine what it would be like to walk up the winding driveway of a farm in Charleston, with acres of lush green pastures in every direction, only to discover old oaks and dancing moss and twinkly white lights, and you’ll at least have an idea of what’s coming your way! ♥

I’m off to work on my notes for tomorrow’s Tuesdays Together meet-up, all while dreaming of our next quarterly getaway coming up this weekend! Happy Monday, friends! Here’s to making this week a really great one!
